Equipment

Collage of skating equipment including a first aid kit, knee pads, socks, gloves, figure skates, towel, skating bag, soakers, guards, and leg warmers

The equipment you get can make a big difference in your skating journey. You’ll want to consider budget – skating can become expensive, but there are also reasonable lower-priced options out there – as well as commitment.

The single most important piece of equipment for any figure skater is his or her skates. Figure skates actually consist of two separate pieces: Boots and Blades. These are often bought together for beginning skaters, but as a skater advances, they’ll want to purchase their boots and blades separately.

Once you’ve purchased your skates (and anything else you decide you want), you’ll need a place for Storing Your Stuff. Next, you’ll want to check out the Accessories, some of which are more important than others, and it’s also a good idea to consider Protective Gear, especially when you or your skater starts learning the higher-level jumps.
